Position Overview

The Member Engagement Assistant’s primary focus will be assisting in various early member recruitment and retention plans and supporting our Inclusion and Engagement committees and member groups.  Responsibilities include assisting with execution of the existing strategic engagement plans, as well as developing relationships with contacts at colleges/universities to provide insight and guidance on the growth of the Academy’s strategies/tactics and administering programs aimed at increasing membership engagement and reducing attrition.  Additional responsibilities will include working with volunteers for specific committee management.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with projects, including the creation of timelines and work plans that support the overall strategic plans developed with committees.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key decision makers and administrative staff at academic institutions (program managers, program coordinators, etc.) to address attrition rates at key transition points of membership.
  • Support volunteers and work related to Inclusion & Engagement committee, subcommittees, and related infrastructure including member communities.
  • Assist with meeting scheduling, creation of agendas and meeting materials, creation of meeting notes, and assisting with in person meetings.
  • Serve as a key contact for staff across the Academy to connect membership initiatives with value proposition for early career members (marketing, policy/advocacy, education, etc.).
  • Prepare progress documentation on strategic plans, metrics tracking and evaluation, and other position-specific documentation.
  • Maintain high professional standards of integrity, ethics, and commitment to the goals of AAPM&R
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience and Skills 

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years’ experience in a membership service-related position, preferably in association management or health care.                                                                                                                                                                        
  • Excellent member service competency with the ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, to prioritize, and to provide feedback and solutions as needed.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a part of a cross-functional team.
  • Diligent, well-organized self-starter with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral, written and listening communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Periodically must be available for virtual video meetings that may occur in the evening and in person weekend meetings 3-4 times a year.

AAPM&R Offers

Based on experience and skillsets, the compensation range for the Member Engagement Assistant position is $40,000 - $45,000 per year. AAPM&R offers the following benefits:
