Paul Abend, DO, FAAPMR, medical director of inpatient and outpatient services at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, was recently awarded the 2018 Top Doctor award by NJ Top Docs. Read more.

Michael Andary, MD, FAAPMR, a professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation in Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, has received the Brain Injury Association of Michigan’s 2018 Legacy Society Award for professional service to the brain injury community. Read more.

Marcia A. Bockbrader, MD, PhD, FAAPMR, research physiatrist for the Neurological Institute at Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center, discusses an approach to improve rehabilitation for stroke patients called the Paired Vagus Nerve Stimulation. Read more.

Neilly A. Buckalew, MS, ND, MD, FAAPMR, research director at Living Oak Integrated Medicine and Rehabilitation, was the lead author in a chapter in The ASAM Handbook of Addiction Medicine. Her chapter focused on managing pain and addiction in older adults.

Mehul Desai, MD, MPH, FAAPMR, medical director of the International Spine, Pain & Performance Center, recently published The Spine Handbook. Dr. Desai is a graduate of the Academy Leadership Program.

Kenneth Finn, MD, FAAPMR, physiatrist at Springs Rehabilitation, PC, wrote an opinion editorial for the Washington Examiner, "Dr. Sanjay Gupta misleads: No evidence marijuana helps curb opioid addiction." Read more.

Jose E. Garcia-Corrada, MD, FAAPMR, assistant professor of PM&R and orthopaedics at Emory University School of Medicine, is quoted in a CNN article discussing Michael Jackson’s famous anti-gravity lean. Read more.

Amy J. Houtrow, MD, PhD, MPH, FAAPMR, an associate professor and vice-chair for pediatric rehabilitation medicine in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and a Member-at-Large on AAPM&R’s Board of Governors, chaired the Committee on Improving Health Outcomes for Children with Disabilities, which recently released a report outlining the opportunities for improving programs and services for children with disabilities. Read more.

Sujin Lee, MD, a physiatrist with the Veterans Affair Healthcare System Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders Center, was co-author of the study, "Noninvasive spinal stimulation method enables paralyzed people to regain use of hands." Read more.

Gerard A. Malanga, MD, FAAPMR, physiatrist at New Jersey Regenerative Institute and Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation, is part of a team of researchers who are investigating a new treatment using micro-fragmented adipose tissue injections for chronic shoulder pain in wheelchair users with spinal cord injury. Nathan Olafsen, MD, FAAPMR, was recently announced as the associate director of medical student education for the department of orthopedic surgery at Washington University (effective July 1, 2018). Dr. Olafsen is the first physiatrist to serve in a director role for medical student education at Washington University School of Medicine.

Julie K. Silver, MD, FAAPMR, director of cancer rehabilitation at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, was the keynote speaker at the 2018 Cancer Rehabilitation Symposium held at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Jonas M. Sokolof, DO, FAAPMR, recently joined the faculty at NYU Langone to serve as director of its new Division of Oncological Rehabilitation. Read more.
