For the 2023 performance year, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will once again allow clinicians, groups, and APM Entities to submit a MIPS Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances (EUC) Exception Application requesting reweighting of MIPS performance categories due to the current COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE). The MIPS EUC Exception application for the 2023 performance year will be available here starting in the spring of 2023 (date TBD) and will close at 8 p.m. ET on January 2, 2024. CMS also recently announced that it has extended the deadline to submit a 2022 EUC Exception Application through March 3, 2023.

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Nov 09, 2020

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills.

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
