An Update on AAPM&R's Spine Patient Registry—An Interview with Member Volunteers Spearheading the Initiative

Health care is moving into an era of value-based medicine. Medical specialties are under increasing pressure to provide justification for services, both in terms of the cost benefit and methods to measure quality. Physiatry is no different and must find ways to demonstrate the value of the patterns of care that lead to better outcomes. To align with this shift, AAPM&R and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) are working together to create a spine patient registry, which will support the collection and submission of quality data specific to spine patients and track these patients’ outcomes over time.

We connected with our member volunteers who are leading this initiative to get their insights on the vision of the spine registry, why it’s different from others out there, and the role of data in the future of medicine. View the July issue of The Physiatrist for the full interview.
