AAPM&R Voices Physiatry’s Concerns of Proposed MACRA Rule

On April 27, 2016, a proposed rule was issued by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) that signifies the most extensive change in physician payment policies in the last 2 decades. Your Academy worked diligently to read and synthesize the information to determine how it will impact physiatry. On June 27, 2016, your Academy took a stand for the specialty and submitted comments to CMS on the proposed rule. Learn more.

“What is PM&R?” Contest—Deadline Approaching

The Resident Physician Council (RPC) Board invites all residents and medical students to raise awareness for PM&R by answering the question, “What is PM&R?” This is your chance to show everyone what PM&R is really all about! AAPM&R is currently accepting YOUR video submissions to showcase the specialty and show everyone how awesome PM&R is! The winning video will be used to promote physiatry on the Academy’s website, social media, and at the 2016 Annual Assembly in New Orleans. Creators of the video will also win free tickets to the President's Reception. We can't wait to see your video submissions! Learn more here and hurry—the deadline is July 31!

  • Steven Flanagan, MD, chair of rehabilitation medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center, discusses the importance of identifying and treating concussions early on in teens and children in the article, "Many Sports-Related Concussions May Go Untreated in Children, Study Finds." Read more.
  • Karen Meyer, DO, recently became the new medical director for the inpatient rehabilitation unit at MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena. Throughout her career, Dr. Meyer has worked as the medical director of a neurorecovery brain injury program, a physiatrist in inpatient rehabilitation hospital and outpatient settings, and most recently in private practice in Traverse City.
