Wheelchairs are generally used by individuals who have conditions that do not allow them to achieve independent movement. This complimentary webinar will address compliance and documentation for coverage of standard manual wheelchairs, power mobility devices, and mobility assistance equipment. Topics to be covered include general patient coverage criteria, provider requirements, supplier requirements, and the role of non-physician providers on the rehabilitation team. Rehabilitation Research & Innovations Highlighted at NIH Conference—A New NIH Rehabilitation Research Plan in Final Stages of Development

At the NIH Rehabilitation Research Conference, “Moving the Field Forward’ held May 25- 26, 2016 on the NIH Campus, Francis Collins, MD, PhD, director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), delivered the keynote address to 460 attendees, including Peter Esselman, MD, chair of the AAPM&R Quality Practice, Policy, and Research Committee (QPPR) and several AAPM&R members. Dr. Collins stressed the relevance and importance of rehabilitation to NIH and how the development of a coordinated rehabilitation research plan is long overdue. Read the full meeting recap here.

AAPM&R Co-Signs Letter in Response to Proposed Official Disability Guideline (ODG) Recommendations

On May 27, your Academy co-signed a letter sponsored by the North American Neuromodulation Society commenting on the Official Disability Guidelines (ODG) proposed policy that would prevent coverage for intrathecal drug delivery systems (IDDS) for all workers’ compensation injuries, including new and current low dose therapies. The letter is in opposition to the ODG proposed policy in an effort to preserve patient access to this care. Learn more.

CMS Revises JW Modifier Rule

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has updated their rule for using the JW modifier when discarding unused drugs from a single-use file. It is no longer voluntary, but mandatory beginning July 1, 2016. Learn more.

18 Days Away from the MACRA Proposed Rule Comment Deadline

On April 27, a proposed rule was issued by the Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) that signifies the most extensive change in physician payment policies in the last 2 decades. Have you viewed the full proposed rule? If not, learn more and submit a formal comment by June 26.
